Walter will be moderating a debate organized by The Stedelijk Museum and Magazine Items in which four very different design studios present their new identities for museums: Mevis & van Deursen (Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam), Lava (Moscow Design Museum), Our Polite Society (Bauhaus Dessau) and Irma Boom (Rijksmuseum). They also talk about the special nature of the commissions. How can you create a comprehensive image for an institution that accommodates thousands of images? And how do you deal with the social discussion which erupts following every design for an important museum?

The 10th APCI international conference will focus on the role of the clusters within the development of creative industries. Two trends can be observed nowadays. The first one favors the creation of clusters of creative industries, while the second focuses on the introduction of creative industries within already existing clusters.
Walter will talk about the role and place of Design Academy Eindhoven within the Eindhoven region, will introduce the socalled CLICK network ( the Dutch way to organize the creative sector) and will peak into the future of socio-economic creativity.

One of the most interesting questions to be answered concerning emerging economies is whether or not they are simply going to be duplicating Western market standards or going to find new hybrid forms of mixing longstanding traditional learning’s with innovative 21st century possibilities. And if they do, will that create a socio-economic advantage in a globalized playing field.
